Magic: the Gathering Theros All Singles Now Available

Theros is the newest set from Wizards of the Coast and is due to be released on the weekend of the 27th September.  The stats for this large 249 card set is similar to previous sets with 15 Mythic, 53 Rare, 60 Uncommon, 101 Common, 20 Basic Land but after this, things are rather different.  This ancient Greek mythology set, with a enchantment theme delivers a plethora of flavor / storyline goodness across all five colors and 25 multicolor ‘gold’ cards.  Theros also delivers big with a whopping nine different cycles all intertwined with the back-story of this new world.

Here at MTG Mint Card, we asked around the office including players we know as to what their new favorite cards up.  There was a Lot of discussion but we did manage to produce this list of the Top Ten coolest Theros cards.  Let’s check them out now –

Anger of the Gods – this awesome new Slagstorm is the perfect answer against Voice of Resurgence

Anger of the Gods
Ashiok, Nightmare Weaver – possibly the coolest art in the set, this Planeswalker is solid in a Dimir control deck.

Ashiok, Nightmare Weaver
Elspeth, Sun’s Champion – everyone’s favorite white walker is back and is just as potent as ever.

Elspeth, Sun’s Champion
Erebos, God of the Dead – this nerfs lifegain tech and is an indestructible Sign in Blood on tap.

Erebos, God of the Dead
Spear of Heliod – here’s an upgraded Honor of the Pure anthem on an artifact with Giltspire Avenger’s Ability.

Spear of Heliod
Hero’s Downfall – perhaps soon the be the ‘go to’ removal spell of choice for creatures and planeswalkers.

Hero’s Downfall
Magma Jet – an inexpensive but powerful burn spell with a solid ‘scry’ ability.

Magma Jet
Purphoros, God of the Forge – expect to see this in creature-heavy R/G/x builds in the new standard format.

Purphoros, God of the Forge
Stormbreath Dragon – our new fav dragon delivers a hasty pro-white flier with a conditional ‘eotb’ ping.

Stormbreath Dragon
Thoughtseize – if mono-black control is to be a deck of note this season, this will be in every one of them.

Finally – special mention to the new Scrylands (Temple of Abandon, Temple of Deceit, Temple of Mystery, Temple of Silence, and Temple of Triumph). Although these come into play tapped, the upside is you can ‘scry’. Mana-fixing has been throttled back a titch so these rare dual lands will be very relevant.

That’s it for now from us at MTG Mint Card, be sure to drop on by and get your Theros singles/sets in soon.
