Solemn Simulacrum (Magic 2012 Core Set)

If you take a careful look at what’s new in the Magic 2010 Core Set, your eyes are not only stay on Jace, Garruk but still on the Solemn Simulacrum. If you want to find in Grab for Power amongst the 60 cards, then you can’t miss these cards. The biggest change or addition that immediately noticeable in Magic 2012 core set (M12) is the rewording of some of the terminology. Solemn Simulacrum is back in the Magic: The Gathering 2012 Core Set, a card that has seen play in just about every conceivable format since this marvelous “3 for 1” tinker toy came about in the original Mirrodin set.

When Solemn Simulacrum enters the battlefield, you may search your library for a basic land card and put that card onto the battlefield tapped. If you do, shuffle your library.

When Solemn Simulacrum dies, you may draw a card.

Unlike its original home in Mirrodin block, where it was overshadowed by Affinity, among other decks, this time it will actually make the cut for Standard. As for other formats, its time has passed (although it actually saw Vintage play at some point, which says something).

There are some reasons why Solemn Simulacrum is so good. It can be played in any deck no matter the color. It is great in plenty of monocolor decks, but will also shine as a fixer.  The Simulacrum also accelerates you, by putting a fifth land onto the battlefield. This card can be good in many different ramp decks that want to hit six mana quickly which lets you go from four mana to six mana. You get a Rampant Growth, a 2/2 creature, and when the creature dies, you get a free card. There is very little reacting to this card in any meaningful way without losing value.

Solemn Simulacrum succeeds against beatdown where many have failed because their abilities deter trades, while the card advantage they provide helps you make land drops and draw the correct threat solutions. It fixes your colors, speeds you up, fuels your card economy, buys you time, and provides backup win conditions and planeswalker defense, and more.
